4 doors are a set of points on the abdomen that consists of RN12 (zhong wan), ST25 (tian shu), and RN6 (qi hai). The 4 points surround the umbilicus. RN12 is on the midline of the body, 4 cun above the umbilicus. RN6 is also on the midline of the body, 1.5 cun below the umbilicus. ST25 is located 2 cun lateral to umbilicus on each side. The point combination is used to treat digestive disorders by strengthening the middle jiao and regulating the function of the spleen, stomach, and intestines.
RN12 (zhong wan) is translated to the central stomach. It is the front-mu point of the stomach, which makes it one of the most effective points to harmonize the stomach. It can be used for excess or deficient conditions: stomachaches, abdominal distention, borborygmus, nausea, vomiting, acid regurgitation, diarrhea, dysentery, indigestion, and even insomnia.
ST25 (tian shu) is translated as the heavenly pivot. It is the front-mu point of the large intestine, which makes it one of the most effective points to regulate the large intestine. It can be used to treat a myriad of symptoms: diarrhea, dysentery, constipation, overeating, distention, edema, and loose stools.
RN6 (qi hai) is translated as the sea of the qi. It can help regulate qi for stagnation in the lower abdomen and tonify qi and yang to treat deficiencies and lack of energy. It is also used in menstrual disorders and can dispel dampness and turbidity to treat dysmenorrhea, uterine bleeding, leukorrhea, etc.
As mentioned before, the combination of points is used to treat digestive disorders by stimulating or calming the organs of the digestive tract. It can help with abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, morning sickness, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, etc. It is also famous for treating obesity. In addition to these points, other acupuncture points will be selected to target and treat certain symptoms that a patient might be experiencing.
