Acupuncture can help with morning sickness
and hyperemesis gravidarum!
Hyperemesis gravidarum is a condition similar to a severe form of morning sickness. PC6, Nei Guan aka Inner Pass, is one of the most commonly used point to help with nausea. You may be familiar with this point if you’ve used motion sickness bands. Those bands are placed on the palmar side of your forearm to stimulate PC6. With the addition of other supporting acupuncture points, it can help suppress the rebellious qi that causes you to feel nauseous.
Acupuncture can help with spring allergies and sinus congestion!
There’s not a lot of medication pregnant mothers can take when it comes to spring allergies. We have a lot of expectant mothers who come into the clinic to try acupuncture as a last resort to help with sinus headaches and nasal congestion. We use acupuncture points around the nose, eye brows, and the anterior hairline to open nasal passages and alleviate the pressure buildup in the sinus cavities. Most people feel immediate relief and notice that they’re able to breathe through their nose better after just a few needles are placed.
Acupuncture can help with pain!
As your baby grows and your body changes to accommodate and support the baby, you may start to notice that you have more neck pain or back pain. It can get quite uncomfortable especially at the later half of the pregnancy. A lot of the patients end up tossing and turning through the night to find that comfortable position. Acupuncture can help release the tight muscle and relieve some of those aches and pains. In addition to helping your pain, we can calm your nervous system so that you feel more relaxed at night and wake up refreshed!
Acupuncture can help support your labor!
With the guidance of your PCP and or OBGYN, we can help support and prepare you and your baby for labor and delivery. For example, if the baby has not turned by the 32nd or 34th week, we can burn moxa on certain points of the body to encourage the turning of the baby. While we do not physically turn the baby, the burning of moxa can relax the pelvic muscle so that it gives the baby more space to turn. In addition, we can teach you acupressure points that help with labor pain and release oxytocin to encourage labor.
Acupuncture can help you from the start until the end of your pregnancy. It is a gentle way to support you and your baby stay happy and healthy!
