Why use acupuncture even when you’re not sick.

The accumulation of daily stress can throw you off your game, knock your body off balance, block energy channels, and make you more prone to catching a cold or flu, or worse, predispose you to developing chronic disease. Receiving acupuncture in a regular manner, is a means of health maintenance. It allows the mind, body and spirit to remain peaceful and harmonious, and similar to brushing and flossing your teeth to prevent cavities, acupuncture can be applied to strengthen the immune system and head off health problems before they occur. While we are all too familiar with the runny nose, nasal congestion, headache, sneezing, and coughing that seems to plague a great majority of people during cold and flu season, research is showing how acupuncture offers an answer.
According to a 2018 systematic review and meta-analysis titled Acupuncture for the Common Cold in the journal Medicine, researchers suggest that a “significantly positive benefit is obtained from the administration of acupuncture therapy” to manage upper respiratory infections. In the article, the authors accumulated evidences showing how acupuncture may inhibit vascular permeability, interfere with immune cells sticking to blood vessel walls, and even be as effective as orally administered Aspirin and Indomethacin against swelling from inflammation. In addition to heightening the cellular immune network, acupuncture was also reported to ameliorate the antioxidant defense systems effectively supporting your own body’s detoxification, and clearing toxins is directly associated with less illness and healthier living.
In short, acupuncture is all about balancing the bodily systems and correcting the cause of the imbalance before it even makes itself known. While there is much to learn about how acupuncture really works, suffice to say that science is starting to fill in the gaps. In the mean time, stay well and prevent illness by tapping into thousands of years of healing wisdom and get regular acupuncture tune ups!
