Physical Therapy During Pregnancy
- Posted on: Aug 22 2019
Having a baby is one of the most exciting yet stressful times in a woman’s life. Lower back pain is almost inevitable for any expecting mother as her pregnancy progresses, due to added weight, poor posture, and change in the body’s center of gravity which causes muscles in the back to work harder, therefore becoming painful. Not to mention the added stress of preparing for a new beautiful baby!
Physical therapy is a great way to improve posture, reduce pain, and prepare the new mother for labor. Simple techniques such as soft tissue massage and joint mobilization can help relieve pain. Postural correction and lower extremity, back, and abdominal strengthening exercises are a great way to maintain progress made. All hands-on work and exercises can be performed in a comfortable position and environment for the soon-to-be mom.
All patients will be educated on and given a thorough home exercise program to perform on days they do not attend PT.
Physical therapy during pregnancy can also help recovery post-partum by accelerating progress back to pre-pregnancy weight that all new mothers want to return to as well as help with endurance and fatigue.
