Restless Leg Syndrome

Restless legs syndrome, or RLS, is a common nerve condition where you have unpleasant creeping, tugging, or pulling feelings in your legs. You might also have an overwhelming urge to move your legs. The symptoms are usually worse at night or when you’re resting.
Medical doctors don’t know the cause of RLS, and there’s no cure. But certain things can trigger symptoms. Knowing your triggers and how to avoid them will help.
From a Chinese medicine perspective, however, there are entirely different ways of looking at the balance of energies within the body, which can sometimes make sense of problems such as these within a theoretical structure that is quite different from western medicine. Problems like restless legs syndrome, where the leg feels as though it is ‘over-energized’. A skilled practitioner should very quickly be able to make sense of the energy flows within the system, and be able to offer you some sense of whether there is something that is treatable. In my 13 years as a practitioner RLS is treatable and curable in most cases as long as the patient understands what are the underlying currents of their individual root causes for RLS.
