Scar treatments for Chronic Pain

Why has treating scar tissue with acupuncture been an essential component to healing chronic pain for centuries in East Asian Medicine?

We see pain as a disruption in the flow of blood and energy through the muscles, skin, and underlying tissues in the body.  Scars are a malformation in normal skin tissues, collagen, blood vessels sometimes causing a build up of toxins in the area.  Not all scars cause problems.  Many are superficial and heal without scar tissue build up.  The directionality and size are also a factor, as well as an individual’s own ability to heal and regenerate cells. Some scars that go deeper can appear lumpy, discolored, and can be tingly, itchy or sore when pushed on. These scars would benefit from scar treatments. Freeing up the underlying damaged tissue can improve the flow of blood and Qi which may be affecting nearby muscles  joints and even organs.

With acupuncture we surround the scar with needles.  Sometimes using very low frequencies of electricity  applied to the needles to speed up the healing process.   This signals the body to regenerate cells in the area thus restoring healthy blood and energy flow and decreasing pain to the diistal areas.
